First Timex Ironman Watch Upgrade - INDIGLO
By Jennifer Langston

timex ironman gps
TIMEX WATCHINDIGLO was the first upgrade that was ever done the Timex Ironman watch. This can be considered to be a major upgrade done back in 1992. So, what is this INDIGLO? It is nothing but an electroluminescence dial. The purpose of this was to ensure that the user can check his readings and also refer to time when in an extreme dark environment. This technology was first made use of, in clocks by some other companies. However, Timex revolutionized the wrist watches by incorporating this technology in them.

This particular technology was found to be useful for midnight runners, security guards, as well as movie goers. The illumination that it produces is comparable to the full moon glow. All that the user needs to do to activate it is to press the button. The plus point of this feature was that it was carefully designed to ensure that very little battery was consumed so that the watch does not stop working right in the middle of the night.

The working principle of this INDIGLO is based on the conversion of electrical energy into light directly and not electricity to heat and heat to any incandescent bulb. Thus, the power consumption is fairly low compared to the incandescent bulb technology that most of the other manufacturers used earlier.

The illumination lasts comfortably for three seconds every time that the button is pressed, thus enabling the user to make note of the time of the day or other details such as heart rate, calories burnt, etc. For runners who reside in dark winter countries, this is the best alternative and far effective watch compared to any ordinary wrist watch. This technology was then induced into other variants of Timex running watches thus making them ultimate choice for serious runners.

Apart from the vital facilities that it provides to the athletes, fitness enthusiasts, spelunkers, security guards, and so on, they also help in entertaining movie-goers. The fun fact is that the young generation has come up with a new language using INDIGLO. Three flashes represent thumbs down while four means that it is the turn of that person to go and buy the popcorn.

The INDIGLO technology used in Timex Ironman watch has received acceptance from several athletes and people who look for some cool features on their wrist watches. Though it was the first major upgrade done to Ironman series, it still has not lost its charm and continues to exist in the recent years as well.

Timex Ironman - Time Tested

Timex Ironman Men's Road Trainer Heart Rate Monitor Watch, Black/Orange, Full Size
The Timex Ironman line of wristwatches is one of the most popular of timepieces available. One of the most useful models is the Shock, which happens to be solar-powered and thus very handy. This Timex Ironman is perhaps the leanest and meanest of all the makes ever made, not unlike an Altimeter Compass Watch. True, its lap-memory feature is only half that of something like the more expensive Triathlon, but it's a true Ironman all right, with the same sporty digital design as the rest of the family.

Indeed, all these watches so far can be counted on to provide some measure of water resistance and a great backlight. They are housed in tough durable stainless steel casing to protect against scrapes and scratches, often coupled to a resin wristband for rough wearing and action. A model like the solar-powered Shock previously mentioned will provide up to six hundred and sixty feet of water resistance as well as, naturally, shock resistance. Like the Altimeter Compass Watch, the stainless steel bezels add to the professional look of one of these while fulfilling its primary task of marking and setting information. Timex Ironman watches are very macho-looking timepieces that are equally at home in the boardroom or the locker room, as the company likes to say. And indeed they have been very well-received in the marketplace since their debut, best embodying the company's old ad slogan "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking" with thick he-man chasses for sports and applications out-of-doors.

The company itself lives up to its old advertising motto, having been in the business of timepiece manufacturing since 1854. These timepieces are made by one of the most famous of American companies, with a proven track record as an industry leader, bringing to market one of the world's first digital watches ever in the 1970s or the first Mickey Mouse clock in the 1930s. These guys also make and market the popular electroluminescent lamps that have been providing backlighting for watches well over two decades.

History has shown us that stylish, hardy, multifunctional watches, at a low cost are always something people will be interested in.

Timex Ironman Triathlon Watch - Inexpensive Yet Fashionable
By Adam Hefner

 timex ironman gps watch
Timex Unisex T54281 Ironman Triathlon Sleek 5/1 Resin Strap WatchIt includes three sports back to back, viz. swimming, biking, and a marathon to sum it up. Timex that manufactures watches sprouted with a new plan of improving sales. They felt that adding a sports-tinge to the watch could lead to better reception among the crowd. This idea worked and that gave rise to our esteemed Timex Ironman Triathlon watch.

The reason why this particular variant of sports watches became famous was because of the affordable rates that endeared them to one and all irrespective of their financial status. There are different price ranges of these watches. Depending upon the number of features, the price shoots up. For example, the high tech models of Ironman triathlon watches consist of additional features such as GPS, lap recorder (which is essential to keep track of your lap timings), heart rate monitor, etc.

These watches have become highly famous amongst celebrities, businessmen, lawyers, and so on. The water resistant feature was initially for depths of 100 meters.

However, recent models have better water resistance as well as some cosmetic changes that go along well with the current generation. Also, there are watches made exclusively for women. The only modifications done to the watches are reduced size and different color pattern (or say girly colors such as baby pink, violet, etc).

In the year 1992, the first major upgrade was made to these Ironman triathlon watches. This particular feature also came with dramatic colors. In addition to it, the power consumption of this technology was fairly negligible. Hence, it soon became the hottest selling running watch all over the world.

Even today, Timex Ironman Triathlon watch has not lost its value. In fact, there are well advanced watches that come with hi-fi features that make them ideal for expert athletes and serious trainers. For people who enjoy sports goods, triathlon watches are must-have collectibles

By Rod McAnally

Timex Ironman T5F011 Men's Bodylink Heart Rate Monitor Watch
The Timex Data Recorder works with a limited number of Timex watches that support heart rate monitors and GPS. It's function is to record continuous data that can later be uploaded to PC and analyzed in a software program like the Timex Trainer (bundled with most of Timex's advanced watches) or a third party software application like SportsTracks.

The Timex Data Recorder is about 3cm in diameter and clips neatly onto your shorts. It simultaneously collects heart rate and speed and distance data from heart rate and GPS sensors and continuously records workout information with support over multiple workouts.

The Recorder is also capable of tracking navigation data, including altitude, elevation, latitude, longitude, ascent and descent data. The device connects to PC via a USB cable. Once uploaded the Timex Trainer software lets you to analyze your data in a number of ways including:
Weekly activity time
Weekly distance goals
Weekly time in HR zones
Weekly distance by sport
Daily time in HR zones
Daily time in HR zones by sport
Daily distance
Daily activity time
Daily body weight
Daily resting heart rate
Daily highest altitude

The Data Recorder has a different capacity to store data depending on the information it is storing at a given time.

While recording heart rate monitor data only, a whopping 72 hours of data can be recorded, with speed and distance data only (no altitude), 26 hours of data is possible. With heart rate monitor data plus speed and distance, 14 hours of data can be stored and 7 hours with 3D GPS (inclusive of altitude) can be stored in the Data Recorder's memory.

The Timex Data Recorder is not essential, nor does it come standard with any Timex watches, but if you wish to store as much of your training data as possible and have it available for download and analysis, it may be worth while investing in this device.
